Bernard’s first wife died in childbirth 3 years prior leaving behind a daughter, Corrine Michelle. Bernard married Amarice out of necessity because he was desperate for an heir. When Amarice gave birth to Sebastian, Bernard was overjoyed. He finally had his son and proudly paraded the baby around, showing him off to everyone. Only the best were hired to look after the boy and no expense was spared on the lad, and that included his education. Amarice died in 1652, due to pneumonia and Sebastian, at 13 rebelled against the loss. Up until her death, Amarice had doted on her son and it was because of her affections that he became who he was. Sebastian was self-assured and believed himself to be near perfection because for everyday of his life, his mother had told him so. When she died, there was no one to continue the adulation but the ideas had already been set in the young man’s mind. He lost his virginity at 15 to a bar wench much older than he and it was she who taught him how to properly love a woman and make her feel like she was all that mattered, no matter her station in life. She died of sypillis when Sebastian was 18. He continued on in his whoring and drinking until he turned 24, when he himself contracted the disease and as it ate away at his body, he became belligerent and demanding of everyone. In April 1664, Sebastian met an Englishwoman by the name of Annabelle Montgomery and began an affair that would change his life forever. Annabelle was the quintessential beauty and Sebastian fell deeply in love with her at first sight. It wasn’t until after that he came to understand just why she was as beautiful as he believed her to be. On the eve of his birth, May 22 1664, Sebastian went to visit Annabelle for what he believed to be the last time. He was dying and even the finest of physicians couldn’t help the wealthy man. He’d been told that the disease does not know the difference between wealth or poverty and that he should make amends where he could, asking forgiveness of God and all those he’d wronged in his short life. Scoffing at them all, he made his way to his lover’s home and was welcomed in with open arms. His last night alive was spent making love and drinking with the woman that had captured his heart and the day of his birth, he spent it in bed, coughing as his body slowly shut down. On the eve of May 23, 1664, Annabelle entered the room she’d given him and upon sitting on the edge of his deathbed made him an offer. Life. He listened as she told him tales from long ago, stories or so he believed and when she finished he merely nodded his head. Annabelle took this as consent and as the moon shone in through the opened windows, she made love to him for what he thought to be the last time. He fully believed that in their joining, he would live on through a child, become immortal so to speak and with a final shudder, took his last breath as Annabelle lay curled up against his cooling body. When he awoke 3 nights later he felt renewed and ever changed. Annabelle paced his room and he eyed her from his vantage point on the bed, anger growing inside of him at what had been done.
